It is said that Prevention is Always Better Than Cure. To achieve this objective, from last 37 years we have been conducting school education programme on Burns Prevention in schools of Navi-Mumbai and Mumbai region to bring awareness among children about fire safety. Every year we conduct education programme on burns prevention in different schools across Mumbai in three different languages, Marathi, Hindi, and English. More than 5000 students participate in the programme. We go to different schools and give a 15 minute PowerPoint presentation on how to prevent burns, safety measures to be followed and knowledge of first-Aid after burns accident takes place. After that we conduct an impact test to assess the effect of the awareness programme. The successful students and schools are awarded certificates and prizes. |

It is generally observed that more women and children get burns compare to other categories. Statistics has shown that 80% of the burns victim are women and children. Also it is seen that people of lower economic condition are more venerable to burn accident compare to people of higher economic strata. Burns treatment is very costly and time taking but unfortunately poor people cannot afford to such expensive treatment hence we reach out to educate students so that they can educate them self as well as their parents on Burns Prevention. |
